If the game is being billed as NEW and not a glorified expansion, then imho there should be nothing carried over that would offer bonuses that would allow gw veterans an advantage over new comers to the series, no matter how big or small.

A new game should be a clean slate - names are fine - - viewing what my "ancestor" accomplished in my hall of ladi da - fine. But giving me a better chance of salvageing the gw2 weapon mod i want JUST BECAUSE i got a rank 3 wisdom title in GW1 is unfair to new comers.

No?
the point is: I bought 3 games, and spent most of my free time to get those advantages and to get my maxed wisdom title (just an example); why should a new comer, that bought only GW2 and spent much time playing other games, be like me, who play GW from its very beginning?

anyway the Gaile's post says that you can "pass things and titles down through the family" using the hall of monuments, so I don't know if it's still a problem for the GW veterans.

I really wish I had just skipped this thread. Full of inane foolishness really.

Point one: As has been stated, it's a different game. You deserve no credit for playing GW1 just like you get no credit for taking a new job in a different field. You all will get enough advantage from the learning curve of how GW tends to work anyhow.

Point two: title collection is just an ego boost. It really just boils down to who spent a ton of time playing to gather any of the titles. (I should know, I have plenty of them and really don't do anything any better than most on the game) Will anyone really care except the guy that has the title? Do any of you actually care about the titles you see others using?

Point three: The drone of "dead game makes it unplayable" is really stale and lame. a month ago you all loved the game but now that it's allegedly winding down, it is no longer worth your time. Not a single aspect of the content has changed, just your attitude towards it. There are great games with very short support life in this world and some real garbage that still gets supported for whatever reason. If you are going to make all your quality choices based on active support, you are going to end up missing out on some great things.

Point four: If ANet opts to close the servers for GW1, I would be inclined to not purchase any other products they offer in the future. The game was released with certain proclimations of free play and that was not limited to any time frame that would end with the release of a new product.

Point five: I'm not buying a sequal game just because it's part of the franchise. if it doesn't offer me anything interesting to me, I'll be happy to stay where I am in the original game.

Then perhaps you should have played the game like they said you could, getting things with max stats for a low amount of cash. If you made the conscious decision to buy FoW, then you ought to have thought about the future - the servers aren't going to stay open forever.

In my view I am happy that a new GW is coming (approximately 14 sets of 15k armour and 2 sets of FoW + perfect weapons, multiple maxed titles), and although many people are claiming that the gameplay is borrowing heavily from WoW, I think it will make a refreshing change to be able to meet people out in the wilds, and not necessarily have to fight something every three yards.

Oh, wow, a whole 'nother thread about the same issues being discussed here: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10133090

Look, we don't know what we'll be able to carry over or not. My advice: Play the game like you want, like there is no tomorrow.

The idea that we could transfer weapons and/or armor EXACTLY over is ludicrous. We have no idea what the mechanics of Guild Wars 2 will be, or what the Attributes, Max damage, benefits, etc., will be.

I hope that people will get some kind of unique skin for FoW armor or something, but it's not something I personally would count on.

THANK YOU. I completely agree with everything you just said, Salamanca.
"I should get a real/useful bonus (that gives me an advantage in GW2) because I've been a loyal GW player sacrificing me free time for those titles/armour/whatever" = Just NO. You weren't doing this to be loyal to anyone, you were doing this for FUN. (And if you didn't... poor you.)

I am in favor of transfering things over but with a twist..... let the armor have the same look but let the defence drop to starter armor level. You keep the looks and memories but cant have the advantage... though id love to pwn noobs.Same with weapons.... keep the looks but stats should be low.Did i mentioned that i dont give a damn about new comers?

I didn't say GW1 players MUST have bonus, I just said that having advantage would not be bad or unfair for the GW2 new comers...

Anyway Gaile said that GW1 players WILL HAVE bonuses, so...

Wow, thats pretty stupid. New comers help fund the game. Without new comers they would be losing money which in turn affects us. Think before you post ignorant things.

Im already excited. It sounds like GW 2 is gonna be everything I ever wanted in a MMORPG and no monthly payments! No monthly payments means huge sales from littel dudes and peopel whos parents could care less about vid games.

My main name "unmatched Fury" has carried from D1 ( yes i played it) starcraft , warcraft3, diablo 2 ( lvl 96 wind druid thank you very much) into GW factions ritualist. I for one, look forward to the next reincarnation of my fav char and GW.

they'll do alot of things better in PvE, and its sounds liek PvP is going to be jsut as easy to prepare for as in guild wars one.( no months worth or more grind like WoW)

Yea i don't know bout you guys but guild wars 2 is gonna have me excited come 2009.

You're emo arent you? You seem to hate everything. I've seen you in another thread saying how you want PVP'ers dead (which is strange since you also said how you'd love to "pwn noobs") and now it's hatred towards newcomers.

And guess what? We're ALL going to be newcomers to GW2. No one can claim veterancy because GW2 will be pretty much a completely different game.

Yes it would be nice to have some equipment from GW transfer over. But it's not really a big deal. Raging over this is just funny. There are more important things in life to rage over.

I feel kind of like this... I'll still have GW1 to play. Will I try GW2? Of course. Will I try and be a tester? Of course. Am I excited? No... the lack of, or very high level caps just makes me wonder what happened to the casual gamer mentality.

In all reality, though, I'm really looking forward to the beta events. That will be ANets chance to make me go 'wow.' It will also be their chance to make me go WoW.

People, people. *waves hands mysteriously* Think about what you're saying. Do you seriously want your equipment to carry over? That would make GW2 so easy. Just transfer your FoW and voila, you have super armor from day 1. Yawn. You're done.

Same thing with holiday items. It will ruin the uniqueness of GW2 and it's ability to stand on it's own two legs if there's tons of GW veterans on it that hog all the glory with their cool items. There needs to be an equal ground in the sequel, where the newcomers have an equal shot at being the cool ones.

Your stuff in GW won't disappear, it'll still be there for you. Do you have any idea what you're getting for the money you paid? It's butt-ass great value, I tell you. BUTT. ASS. GREAT. VALUE. And now you have even more opportunities in a new game, IF YOU WANT. That's a pretty good deal in a world packed with assholes, you know.

Saying this over and over becomes quite tiresome: because GW2 is a NEW GAME. Props to you for getting your titles etc., but I fail to see why achievements gotten in one game should grant you any benefits in another game.

I agree with Kisuro. I'm not getting the emotional attachment thing. The GW1 server isn't going anywhere. You're still Billy Badass there. I mean... OMG, I traded for Derek Jeter in MLB 2K6 and signed him to a 5 year deal, and in MLB 2K7 he was back on the Yankees??? Oh noes! That's not fair!

Repeated for clarity: It's a new game.

My only issue is the level cap being so high. Following the current 2 years and done game model, I may never break level 75 before GW3. Just have to wait and see.

No, that specific part wasn't adressed at you, but I'm sick of people who want a real advantage (as in "an advantage that allows them to be stronger in-game") over new players just because they have hapened to play GW. Some cosmetic bonuses are nice (as is the ability to keep our names), but I strongly oppose the idea of any "real" advantages for long-time players.
New game. Real advantages based on whether or not one has played a different game = unfair as hell
That's what I was trying to say.

Personally I don't care about leaving things behind. I've put alot of time and effort in my main char by giving her maxed titles, sets of armor and a torm staff, but I had a lot of fun doing it. I'm just excited about exploring the gw2 world like when I just started playing gw1, and starting over from scratch.

I will probably try GW2...but I honestly don't want to, I rather they continue with doing campaigns, i dont necessarily care about adding new jobs...I just want more content, and assuming that Eye of the North will be the last installment to GW1...its really sad...after players get through eye of the north, that will probably be it for GW1 if nothing new will be added, lets face it...people are always complaining about GW dying....I already see another thread saying "Is nightfalls dying?" and there been tons of "Factions is dying" already...GW is pretty much gone and Eye of the north is going to be a waste of money if you plan on getting it for long term play...Im definitely gonna get it...at least for "closure" sense...but...it will definitely bother me that i bought it just to play it maybe 3-4 times on each of my chars or so.

I will definitely try GW2, but honestly, I rather just migrate back to FFXI...I liked guild wars for all it was about...not the best armors or highest levels, but about the skill of the players...and if GW is moving to that genre, then I might as well go back to FFXI which my character is already maxed on two jobs, with plenty of sub jobs leveled, and i have some great armor and junk there...im just gonna have to wait and see how everything will go i guess. Thinking about it now...will GW2 offer completely revamped jobs or will GW1 professions be transferred and slightly modified? Well nevermind, every game has the same template as far as profession goes... a healer white mage/monk/physician/etc...a nuker black mage/elementalist/etc...a warrior, a whatever....lol
